ELK GROVE – Today, Elk Grove City Councilwoman Stephanie Nguyen officially announced her campaign to succeed Assemblymember Jim Cooper as California’s 10th District Assemblymember.
“I’m proud of the work we started here in Elk Grove – keeping our neighborhoods vibrant and safe, but I know I can do more for our region in the State Assembly,” said Stephanie Nguyen. “I am honored to have the early support of Assemblymembers Jim Cooper and Kevin McCarty and look to grow this campaign over the next few weeks.”
“I trust Stephanie to keep our communities safe. She knows first-hand public safety is of the utmost importance,” said Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D- Elk Grove). “Stephanie also recognizes the challenges that small businesses and families face every day. She's been a leading voice against the rise in Anti-Asian hate crimes, fighting vigorously to end the violence. I proudly support Stephanie Nguyen for State Assembly.”
“I have worked with Stephanie for over 15 years, Stephanie is part of this community, said Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D- Sacramento). “As the Executive Director of Asian Resources Inc., she gives back to our community every day. I am proud to endorse her for State Assembly.”
Nguyen, a Sacramento native, attended local schools before graduating from Sacramento State University. In her 15 years at the Asian Resources, Inc. (ARI), including ten years as Executive Director, Stephanie has worked to provide low-income, immigrant, refugee, limited English speaking, youth, formerly incarcerated and undocumented communities access to support services and self-sufficiency programs. With three locations throughout Sacramento County, Nguyen has spent 15 years fighting to ensure that those less fortunate have a voice, are healthy and have an opportunity to thrive.
In 2017, Nguyen was unanimously appointed to serve as the Councilmember for District 4 in the City of Elk Grove making her the first Asian-American woman to serve as a Council Member in Sacramento County’s second largest city.
In 2018, she was elected citywide with over 65% of the vote to continue her term as the only woman on the Elk Grove City Council. Nguyen is a Democrat. She and her husband of 13 years have lived in Elk Grove for over 18 years. They have two daughters, ages 6 and 11 years old. Read more at stephanienguyenforassembly.org.
